Catholic education awards recognise outstanding contributions

From a dedicated team fostering community involvement to a principal at the heart of their school, the Spirit of Catholic Education Awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of staff members, parents, carers, and volunteers within Catholic school communities across Queensland.
“This year’s award recipients are teams and individuals drawn from many aspects of school life,’’ said Allan Blagaich, Executive Director of the Queensland Catholic Education Commission.
“They exemplify the values and mission that we strive to uphold and showcase the breadth of dedication and excellence in Catholic education.”
With a record 325 nominations, this year’s award recipients were announced on 8 July. The recipients will be honoured at the official launch of Catholic Education Week, in Cairns, on Sunday 21 July.
The recipients of the 2024 Spirit of Catholic Education Awards are:
Darkness to Daylight Team: Mark Roberton, Meegan Keating, Ronel Scheepers, Belinda Byrne, and Elizabeth Robertson from St Teresa’s Catholic College, Noosaville, Archdiocese of Brisbane.
Kelly Sheppard: Principal of St Gerard Majella Primary School, Woree, Diocese of Cairns.
Peter Cavalot: Middle Leader at St Teresa’s College, Abergowrie, Diocese of Townsville.
Jan Whelan OAM: Accompanist at Emmanuel Catholic Primary School and Holy Spirit College, Mackay, Diocese of Rockhampton.
Eileen Moyle: Manager of Inclusive Education at Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office, Diocese of Toowoomba.
Cultural Team: Atem Atem, Sue Cameron, Hounein Dawood, David John, Isikeli Kubunameca, Suzanna Majok, Hope Mugalihya, Bella Satui, Weeda Sayeed, Mathew Silao, Mariedelphi Silao, Tamia Song, Josateki Tora, and Tara Wright from St James College, Brisbane RI/MPJP Schools.
Jodi Marshall: Head of Boarding at St Ursula’s College, Diocese of Toowoomba, and winner of the Aunty Joan Hendriks Reconciliation Award.
“The recipients, along with all nominees, are shining examples of the incredible work being done to support students and advance the mission of Catholic education in Queensland,” Mr Blagaich said.
