Pope Leo XIV has appointed the Most Reverend Shane Mackinlay as the new Archbishop of Brisbane. 

Bishop Mackinlay is currently the Bishop of Sandhurst in regional Victoria and will succeed Archbishop Mark Coleridge following his retirement. 

Queensland Catholic Education Commission (QCEC) Executive Director Allan Blagaich welcomed the news: 

“On behalf of QCEC, I warmly congratulate Archbishop-elect Mackinlay on his appointment as the new Archbishop of Brisbane.” 

“We look forward to working closely with him in continuing the mission of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Brisbane and across Queensland. His leadership will be vital as we navigate a time of change and renewal within our sector.” 

“I also take this opportunity to acknowledge the generous and insightful leadership of Archbishop Mark Coleridge. His deep commitment to education, social justice, and the life of the Church has left a lasting legacy.”
