QCEC marks legacy and transition

On 10 June 2025, the Queensland Catholic Education Commission held a special event to honour its more than 50-year legacy and mark its transition to a new era in Catholic education governance.
Following the Commission’s final formal meeting, 32 invited guests — including past and present Commissioners, Executive Directors, staff, and sector leaders — gathered to reflect on QCEC’s enduring contribution to Catholic education in Queensland.

The lunch at Brisbane’s Customs House acknowledged QCEC’s role in uniting school authorities, advocating with government, administering funding, and supporting access to Catholic education for generations of families across the state.
QCEC Chair Madeline Brennan KC and Archbishop Mark Coleridge spoke at the event, acknowledging the maturity and strength of QCEC as the foundation for what comes next.
The Commission will be succeeded by an interim body until Catholic Education Queensland Limited formally starts on 1 January 2026.
The interim Commission will consist of Ms Brennan and current Commission Deputy Chair Carmel Nash, and Audit and Risk Management Committee Chair Patricia Alner.
