QCEC welcomes governance changes

The Queensland Catholic Education Commission (QCEC) has welcomed the Queensland Bishops’ announcement of governance changes that will enhance Catholic education across Queensland.
QCEC Executive Director Allan Blagaich said the transition to Catholic Education Queensland (CEQ) represents an important evolution in Catholic education governance.
“This governance renewal ensures we meet contemporary standards while preserving the unique character of Queensland Catholic education,” Mr Blagaich said. “We’re particularly focused on maintaining strong local connections while enhancing our accountability frameworks.”
Mr Blagaich said the new structure, to be implemented between February 2025 and January 2026, will strengthen engagement with Catholic school communities across all settings.
“We’re building on QCEC’s strong legacy while creating governance structures that serve the future needs of Catholic education in Queensland,” Mr Blagaich said. “This includes maintaining our vital role in supporting Catholic schools through enhanced engagement with school governing bodies and with our advocacy work.”
Mr Blagaich emphasised the seamless nature of the transition for schools and staff. “All current services will continue without interruption, and CEQ will maintain QCEC’s existing authorities and responsibilities.”
QCEC is establishing an implementation team to manage the transition process.
