Chaplaincy and student wellbeing officer services provide students and staff with social, emotional and spiritual support, provide an additional adult role model in the school and enhance engagement with the broader community including parents.

Funding has been provided by the Australian Government through the National Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP) and the Queensland Government through the Chaplain and Student Wellbeing Officer Program (CSWOP) to support schools through the provision of chaplaincy and student wellbeing officers. These programs are funded separately and a successful application for one program does not allow funds to be transferred to the other.

Schools are offered funding according to the following principals agreed by Catholic Education Queensland Limited (CEQL).:

  • All schools with more than 25 students can apply for funding
  • All applicant very remote and remote schools to be funded
  • All applicant schools with more than 15 per cent Indigenous students to be funded
  • All applicant boarding schools to be funded, and
  • Remaining applicant schools to be ranked in order of ICSEA score (lowest to highest) – funding to be progressively allocated until funds are expired
