Overview
The Mission in Practice Project explores effective strategies for integrating Catholic values within education across Queensland. By gathering insights from nine educational authorities, the project collected data from nearly 100 participants – students, parents, and teachers – to identify and share exemplary practices that demonstrate a deep commitment to mission and faith. These practices highlight a balance of Gospel values with educational quality, fostering community, inclusivity, and joy in learning. Anchored in the Mission in Practice framework, the findings underscore characteristics like faith integration, sustainable practices, and holistic development as cornerstones of mission-aligned Catholic education in Queensland, offering a model for future initiatives in Catholic schools.
Framework
The Mission In Practice Framework is a comprehensive resource designed to examine and support Catholic school identity in contemporary contexts. It presents the Catholic school as a complex, adaptive learning community that remains faithful to Gospel values and Church tradition while engaging with diverse community priorities. The Framework is built on four key principles – Tradition, Purpose, Learning, and Witness – each with five associated themes that help define and implement Catholic school identity. It integrates Christ-centered mission with educational practice, balancing religious foundations with modern educational goals and accountability. The Framework serves as a practical lens for school leaders, boards, and staff to reflect on and enhance Catholic school identity while maintaining dialogue with the wider community. It emphasises holistic student development, staff formation, and the goal of human flourishing through an education that is distinctively Catholic yet inclusive and responsive to contemporary needs.
