School communities celebrate faith, hope and love

Catholic schools across Queensland are preparing to open their doors and hearts to the community during Catholic Education Week 2024.
Held from 21-27 July, this year’s theme, “Communities of Faith, Hope, and Love,” shines a spotlight on the values that make Catholic education a vibrant and enriching experience for more than 160,000 students statewide.
“Catholic Education Week brings everyone together – teachers, staff, parents, students and the wider community – to celebrate what makes each of our schools so remarkable,” said Allan Blagaich, Executive Director of the Queensland Catholic Education Commission.
“It’s a time to connect, share stories and show appreciation for one another. It reinforces why the Catholic education sector is so dedicated to the extraordinary journey of learning, growth, and faith.”
With 312 schools and 29 kindergartens participating, the week will feature a diverse range of events and activities and will highlight the breadth of Catholic education, from small, remote primary schools to large metropolitan colleges.
“All these schools offer families an important choice in accessing affordable, high-quality education for their children and this week offers a chance to celebrate their unique communities and their common heritage,” Mr Blagaich said of the event, which is held annually in week three of term three.
Catholic Education Week’s official launch will be hosted by the Diocese of Cairns on 21 July.

Mr Blagaich said the week of celebration was also a time to acknowledge those who go above and beyond in Catholic Education.
“The Spirit of Catholic Education Awards recognise the extraordinary contributions of staff, parents, carers and volunteers who support Catholic schools,” he said. “This year, we received a record-breaking 325 nominations, highlighting the dedication and passion found in our school communities.”
