The Queensland Catholic Education Commission’s (QCEC) annual two-day VET in Schools (VETiS) Pathways Forum earlier this month, at TAFE Queensland’s South Bank campus, centred around supporting educators to deliver meaningful, future-focused career education.

More than 80 staff, representing 70 Queensland Catholic schools and all five diocesan offices, registered for the 2025 Forum. The feedback from attendees praised the 2025 Forum’s “excellent mix of presentations and practical activities”, all aimed at supporting schools to prepare students for a future workforce shaped by emerging technologies and evolving industries.

 

Day 1 included three keynote presentations, commencing with Liv Pennie, CEO at Become Education, who highlighted student agency as a key component in preparing young people for post-school pathways. Kerri Buttery, CEO at Digital Literacy Licence, addressed practical applications and ethical considerations of AI in the classroom, while Michael Healy, National Career Education Manager at MyFuture, spoke about the concepts of meaningful work and sustainable careers. The day also included informative presentations by industry representatives from Manufacturing Skills Queensland, TAFE Queensland and WorldSkills Australia, plus a tour of the TAFE South Bank campus facilities.

 

Day 2 included a practical virtual reality demonstration from Mindflight7, a site visit to Aviation Australia and a workshop with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority, before concluding with a private tour of the WorldSkills National Championships.

“Every student has unique strengths and abilities that can be harnessed with the right guidance, education and training,” said Cam Pickering, QCEC Education Officer and 2025 Forum organiser.
