World Teachers’ Day 2025: Teacher Spotlight – Ashton Hudson

For one dedicated Year 1 teacher at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Biloela, the path to the classroom was never a question of if, but when. Since beginning her teaching career last year, Ashton Hudson has found her calling in education, where each day brings new opportunities to inspire, connect and make a lasting impact.
‘Teaching felt like a natural path for me. As far back as I can remember, it has been the one career path I truly wanted to pursue. My Mum still tells me that from the moment I started daycare, I’d come home saying, when I grow up, I want to be just like my teacher.’
Her journey into education began well before she stepped into her own classroom. Starting out in outside school hours care, she soon transitioned into a role as a teacher’s aide. Now, as a full-time teacher, Ashton finds joy in the small moments that define her days.
Teaching is so much more than delivering lessons. It’s about being a consistent, caring adult in a child’s life. I truly believe every child holds immense potential, and I’m here to help them reach it.’
Ashton’s classroom is a space where effort is celebrated, and a positive mindset is nurtured. She encourages her students to try their best and take pride in their progress, no matter how big or small.
‘My students are my greatest motivation every single day. Being greeted with their incredible excitement, stories, and enthusiasm instantly brightens my mood and reminds me of the amazing young learners in front of me,’ she said.
‘I would strongly encourage anyone considering a teaching career to gain as much experience working in a school setting as possible.’
‘Working in various roles allowed me to observe and work collaboratively with numerous teachers and teaching styles, different school environments, and the crucial support staff who contribute to a school’s success.’
